We were amazed at everyone’s fantastic costumes and snuggly pyjamas, celebrating World Book Day 2026. We spotted Gruffalos, Lost Crayons, Rainbow Fish, Tigers who came to tea, witches and wizards and had great fun trying to find Where’s Wally. World Book Day brought every character imaginable through the doors of the Upper School – it was really interesting to find out what everyone was reading and who their favourite characters were. We had such an exciting day in school and it was great to see our teachers dressed up too. All the children also got to choose a WBD free book to take home. There were some very considered choices and we hope everyone was happy with their final decision!
Buddy and Parent Reading
This week we have been lucky to be joined by many parents for our reading sessions. Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to join us for these sessions. The children have also taken part in ‘Buddy Reading’ sessions with children across both Cypress sites and have loved reading with children in different year groups.
Cypress Football Team Victory!
Yesterday, our wonderful football team won their league games against Heavers Farm Primary! They won the first game 4-2 with Sam making a save off the line to secure victory! The second game was won 4-0, with Elias scoring a hatrick and Jesse scoring to take the team on to secure third place in the league. Our next game is against Whitehorse next week. Wish them luck!
Well done to: Harry, Jack, Tom, Sofian, Sam, Sailor, Jesse, Dara and Elias
Extreme Reading
Well done to all the children who entered our extreme reading competition. We had some incredible entries! We will be sharing photos and announcing the winners on Monday and they’ll be given a £5 voucher to spend at the Book Fair.
Cypress Superstars
Hudson came to see me this week. He has made a brilliant jail cell with magnetic doors and working lights at home linked to his work at school on Crime and Punishment. It has a switch for the light too! So clever! Our wonderful football team have made the cut for Cypress Superstars this week with their win over Heavers Farm this week. Maddie, Bertie and Eddie have been working hard on their taekwondo and have attained their yellow belts! Consistency of practice pays off! We are very proud of you. David (Cedar) has been completing his maths tasks independently and could explain his mathematical method using appropriate vocabulary. Well done David! Aidan, Charlotte, Lathan and Cillian came to chat to me about their reading river and share their favourite books. It was great to hear that you are enjoying some very interesting and funny reads!
Isabelle in Beech came to see me to share her poem called ‘The World is…’ It is so thought provoking, I thought I’d share it with you. Thank you, Isabelle.
Bilal and Kara came to show their fabulous animal poems, inspired by Steve Sobolewski’s poetry workshop. Bilal’s was about a lion and Kara’s was about a dolphin and they had thought really carefully about using impactful language. Well done!
Book Fair
How amazing to see so many of you at the Book Fair after school today, browsing and buying so many wonderful books and utilising the World Book Day vouchers. We did a roaring trade and please come and have a look next week if you didn’t get a chance today.
A huge thank you to the PTFA for funding all these incredible workshops and to Mrs Parker, Ms Pumphrey, Ms Manson, Ms Cheeseman and Mrs Gilbert for working so hard to give the children such unforgettable experiences for Cypress children.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy remembering all the exciting activities and experiences we have had this week.
