CYP: SPRING IS HERE!

Spring has arrived in bursts of sunshine, brightening our days and warming the air at Cypress. Even Wednesday’s hailstorm could not dampen the enthusiasm and focus we have seen in classrooms this week!  It has been wonderful to see children working diligently, showing resilience, and consistently striving to do their very best in everything they do.

Reading Tree Rewards

At the Upper School, we celebrated a fantastic Reading Reward assembly on Monday, recognising all those who read consistently throughout the term. Each child received a special bookmark featuring a QR code linked to a story they can enjoy at home. Every name was entered into a raffle for a book prize. Well done to all of our book prize winners this term, who each selected a brand new book of their choice. A special congratulations goes to Year 6 Oak, who won the Reading Café for their class, along with Cedar (Year 3), Hawthorn (Year 4), and Hazel (Year 5) for their consistent reading efforts. They will enjoy a well-deserved, relaxing reading café afternoon filled with books, drinks and comfort!

At the Lower School, Ms Cheeseman led our Reading Tree assembly on Tuesday and we celebrated children who read consistently every week.  Children were rewarded with a special book and entered into a raffle, where two children from each class were then chosen to select an additional book prize.  We have also celebrated two children from each class who have been ‘Terrific Triers’ with their reading.  Congratulations to Green Class and Turquoise Class for having the highest number of regular readers; they enjoyed a cosy pyjama reading afternoon on Thursday with treats!

Y3 Easter Performance

Y3 wowed us this week with a fantastic Easter performance. It was an Easter ‘eggstravaganza’! It had everything –  acting; perfectly delivered lines, and the singing was nothing short of spectacular – there was even an Easter bonnet parade!  Well done to the Year 3 children for putting on such an impressive show and to the Year 3 team for supporting them to deliver it. World Maths Day at Cypress

Cypress have celebrated World Maths Day with exciting investigations, problem solving and a maths-themed mufti day.  Reception, Year 1 and 2 took advantage of our wonderful Forest School and took their investigations outside.  At the Upper School, we enjoyed a Maths Day assembly, where every class prepared and performed a times table song for us to enjoy! We have seen children dressed in sports wear with numbers on, Number Blocks, dominoes and their favourite number to name just a few.  We hope everyone has enjoyed the day!

Cypress Superstars

I had a visit from Bea in Beech Class who shared her impressively persuasive monologue in the role of Lady Macbeth. It was so good, I thought I should share! Please click the link below to hear it.

Dora and Frankie came to share their letters written as Lady Macbeth – they were very persuasive and characterised Lady Macbeth cleverly! Well done to you both. Cayla in Oak Class came by to show me her impressive swimming trophy and gymnastic medal and certificate – she was crowned best gymnast in her group! Your perseverance has paid off – congratulations! Bea and Evie in Oak Class were busy last weekend! They took part in a swimathon for Cancer Research and Marie Curie and swam an impressive 3.2km (that is 2 miles!). They have raised £369. What stamina and perseverance and for such a worthy cause. Girls, we are very proud of you!

Well done to Sufyan in Violet Class for his amazing independent maths work.  Attila in Indigo Class brought in some incredible homework based on his learning about materials and toys in Year 1 – we were very impressed with your creativity and hard work!  Peter, Athena, Malcolm, Joshua, Elsie, Ruth and Sam in Turquoise Class have worked their socks off writing incredible fact files about London.  Did you know that The Monument cost £313,456 to build and has 311 steps which are 12cm each in depth?!  Children in Indigo Class have been writing their own stories based on ‘Chalk’ by Bill Thompson.  We are very impressed with Sylvia, Albert, Chloe, Elias, George, Milica, Sky and Ruby who have written fantastic stories with adjectives, lots of humour and tried really hard with their handwriting and presentation.  Well done!

Easter holiday activities

There are lots of places offering free or cheap kids meals if you’re out and about over the Easter holidays.  Croydon Holiday Activities and Food clubs are running so if you’re eligible for this scheme and have not yet used your vouchers please visit their website to book.  There are so many fascinating free museums to visit in London and many have special events running over the Easter holiday.  Don’t forget that Crystal Palace Park’s new dinosaur playground has now opened!

Staff Farewells

Farewell to Ms Francis who has been supporting children in Turquoise Class for 3 days a week this term.  We will miss you and wish you lots of luck in your future career.  We say goodbye to Mr Duggan, our Spanish teacher this year as he moves on to pastures new – we wish him every success in his next adventure. We also say goodbye to Miss Mills who works in Holly Class and Willow Class. She is moving abroad to teach in Thailand! We hope that she enjoys every second and send her on with our very best wishes. It was Mrs Carpenter’s last day today – she is moving north and has a new headship in Birmingham! To read her farewell please click here.

Wishing you a restful Easter break,

Mrs Carpenter and Mrs Sorensen
