What an incredibly fun-packed day we have had at Ecclesbourne celebrating World Book Day 2026 and all things books!
We were amazed at everyone’s fantastic dress up which consisted of snuggly pyjamas and famous book characters. We spotted Gruffalos, fairy tale characters, princesses, witches and wizards and had great fun trying to find Where’s Wally. World Book Day brought every character imaginable through the doors of EPS!
The day started with an amazing Poetry Slam where an act from each class performed to the school. The standard of performance poetry was exceptional with staff members brought to both tears and outright laughter. Congratulations to all the children that performed. We are incredibly proud of you!
The Speed Reading Relay from last year made a return but this time on World Book Day so all the children were able to enjoy the teachers’ costumes! The children settled in for a comfortable story time whilst our teachers ran from classroom to classroom to read to the children in each class for a speedy two minutes. Our teachers were put to the test as they only had around 20 seconds to get to the next classroom when the timer went off, which was simple enough when going to the classroom next door but the transition between reception and year 6 was quite a sprint!
We have even been singing about reading! In singing assembly our Year 4 & Year 6 children have been learning the song Readers are Leaders.
