The start of the school year at Cypress, has been full of excitement! Fresh uniforms, big smiles, children rushing to see their friends, and teachers eager to meet their new classes again; it’s been a fantastic beginning.
At the Lower School, we have enjoyed meeting our new Rainbows, Nursery and Reception children who have been in for their meetings and stay and play. They were so calm and settled and it has been lovely to see them focuses and engaged in their chosen activities. Our Year 1 and 2 children have settled well on their return and have enjoyed sharing their holiday news with us.
A very special welcome goes to our Year 3 children and their families who have joined us at the Upper School. It has been such a pleasure to have our new children settling in so confidently and their teachers have been so impressed with their fantastic behaviour for learning. We are really proud of the brilliant start they have made!
In our first assembly on Wednesday, we thought about new beginnings at the Upper School. Each school year is like a race – but not against anyone else. Instead, it’s about challenging ourselves to achieve our own ‘personal best’. Every child has been asked to set two targets for the year ahead. To help them succeed, children have discussed the need to keep their goals ‘SMART’ – clear, achievable, and realistic – so that small steps can lead to big success. At the Lower School, we talked about different feelings we may experience returning to school and that is normal. We also discussed the importance of rules and routines and remembering our Pegasus values.
Later in the week, we turned our focus to kindness at the Upper School. We talked about what it means to be kind in action, not just in words. We know that knowing what to do to show kindness is one thing, but putting those ideas into action in the moment is the most important and sometimes the trickiest part! It’s about making the choice there and then, showing patience instead of frustration, or kindness instead of copying unhelpful behaviour.
We’re already so impressed with how our Cypress children are starting as they mean to go on: showing kindness and living out our Pegasus values. If this first week is anything to go by, it’s going to be a brilliant year ahead!
