CYP UPPER: Eco Squad Reaps the Rewards of a Brilliant Cypress Harvest!

Thanks to the Upper School children’s dedication to gardening, the school garden has delivered a bumper harvest this year. Fresh, crunchy lettuce made its way to the Summer Fete, adding a homegrown touch to burgers on the BBQ. And just this week, the latest crop has taken pride of place on the school’s salad bar-proving that healthy, sustainable food really can come from just outside the classroom door.
A special shout-out goes to Rona and Jemma of Goldfinch Garden Design, whose expert vision and green design skills have helped transform the space into something truly spectacular whilst also championing its use in lessons, PSHE sessions and more. Meanwhile, fundraising superstar Miranda Bradley has worked tirelessly to support the garden’s growth (in every sense of the word!). These three incredible individuals have been the heartbeat of the Eco Squad -bringing energy, creativity and purpose to everything they do. Mrs. Carpenter has also played a key role, developing a fantastic curriculum that has rooted the garden firmly into our learning. Our gardening curriculum ensures that pupils gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of sustainability, nature, and teamwork.

The ambitious outside classroom project – a dream for many years – is now a thriving reality, thanks in no small part to the PTFA and Luke Terry of LTerry Construction. Luke’s team laid the all-important concrete base, helping to ensure the space will stand strong for many years to come…And of course, we mustn’t forget the Eco Squad themselves. From planting and weeding to relentless watering through the summer heatwaves, their efforts have been vital to the garden’s success. They’ve even helped with fundraising to support the garden’s continued development.
A huge well done to everyone involved – your work is blooming marvellous!
