At the Lower School this week, we have been thinking about ‘Zones of Regulation’ and how we manage our emotions. We talked about the different emotions we can experience and how they make us feel. In assembly, we looked at how Mojo became very embarrassed because his presentation in class went wrong. This made him feel angry and it was like a beast telling him all the things that were bad about him. We learnt that sometimes our emotions can make us feel things that are not true.
Upper School Sports Days
This week saw a splendid double-bill of athletic endeavour, as Years 3 and 4 took to the field on Monday, followed by Years 5 and 6 today, organised by Ms Hassan and Ms Ahmed. The children threw themselves, sometimes quite literally, into events such as the three-legged race, javelin throwing, and arguably the trickiest of them all – the sack race, to name but a few. After that came the sprints, both short and long distance, where medals were won and children showed great grit and perseverance.
The grand finale was, of course, the tug of war, where classes heaved and hauled with fierce determination. Not to be outdone, the mums and dads got stuck in for their own tug of war battle, much to the delight of the children. Well done Mums for another awesome win (on both days!) this year. A thoroughly brilliant time was had by all. A huge well done to all the children who persevered admirably in the warm weather and gave their all. Special congratulations go to Olympia, who were crowned champions of both the Year 3 and 4, and the Year 5 and 6 Sports Days. Well done!
Orange Class visit Capel Manor Farm
As part of their learning this term, Orange Class visited Capel Manor Farm in Crystal Palace on Thursday. They had a wonderful time seeing all the animals. This was their first trip out travelling on public transport. It was a really hot day and we were very proud of the way the children behaved. Thank you to all the parents and carers who helped on the day.
Violet Class visit Morden Hall Park
As part of their science learning about ‘Living things and their Habitats’ Violet Class visited Morden Hall Park today. The children enjoyed taking part in the pond dipping activities and then identifying the life forms they had found. Well done Violet Class and thank you to all the parents that helped on the day.
Cypress Superstars
Well done to Orla in Green Class and Clara in Turquoise Class who represented Year 1 and 2 in the Pegasus Academy Trust Poetry Competition. They both wrote fantastic poems about summer and performed them in front of a large audience. We are so proud of you both! Well done Clara for coming 3rd in the competition for Year 2. Congratulations to Juniper in Yellow Class who came to share her amazing writing about spiders. She is loving learning about spiders and has used her phonic knowledge well to produce some very interesting writing. Well done to Julia, Gracie, Isaiah, Alfie and Louiza in Turquoise Class who came to share their brilliant hand puppets they had made in DT. They had really enjoyed learning how to sew.
Ida and Louis in Hawthorn came to see me today to share the inner workings of the digestive system – they spoke knowledgeably and confidently. It was great to see you so enthused about your learning. Angel in Rowan has written some creative, descriptive sentences in her English lessons. I am very impressed with the progress you have made this year, Angel. Lyra from Holly Class came to the office to share her original story inspired by the Year 3 text, ‘Leon and the Place Between’ . Ms Wayman and I were particularly impressed with the meticulous punctuation for speech, well-chosen adjectives and use of varied sentence structures for effect. It was like listening to a Year 5 writer! Well done, Lyra. I think that we may have a budding literary star among us!
Thank you to Ivy and Eve in Birch Class, who have been working to sort and maintain our Book Hut to ensure that children have a never ending supply of free, good quality books to take home and enjoy. We appreciate you proactive approach to reading and the Book Hut!
Well done to Aaliyah in Hazel Class who won the Pegasus Poetry Competition this week with her beautiful poem, ‘Summer Whispers’ . We are very proud of you! We have recorded Aaliyah reading her poem. Please click the link below and enjoy!
We wish all our children a families a restful weekend.
