Ecclesbourne were luckily enough to have author Michael DeSouza visit this week. Michael is the author of the iconic ‘Rastamouse’ children’s book series. When Michael arrived at Ecclesbourne, his presence and infectious personality was felt by all.
Michael worked with our year 1 and 2 classes, where children recited poems from his poetry book ‘Get me Bruv’. Michael also read his latest books ‘Pirate Riddims’ and ‘Da Monstrous Fib’. The children had the best time and before long Michael was a celebrity around our school. During lunch, Michael spent some time outside chatting with the children and asking him for his autograph.
The whole school were treated to an entertaining assembly from Michael. Michael started by completing a health and safety check which turned out to be a poem all about picking your nose! He selected some of our wonderful teachers to join him up in the front to take part in his poem ‘I had a dog’. The whole school was in fits of laughter.
After school, Michael held a book sale and signing which was a huge success. The queue was very long, Michael had a chat with all the children who bought a book and even sold out on his books! Thank you so much Michael for a fantastic day!
