We have had a wonderful first full week back at Cypress and the children are all settled and producing some good learning.
At the Upper School, we have been reflecting on the importance of really noticing the world around us. To explore this idea, we took part in the well-known “gorilla experiment,” which challenges us to pay close attention to detail. The activity highlighted just how easy it is to miss what’s right in front of us when we are not fully focused. It was a fun yet thought-provoking reminder of the value of slowing down and sharpening our awareness.
In addition to this, we have also been listening to the manifestos of our candidates for House Captains in Sparta, Corinth, Athens, and Olympia. Each child who stood up to speak did so with confidence, eloquence, and a real sense of persuasion. They spoke passionately about their ideas for leadership and how they hope to serve their Houses. Standing before one’s peers and delivering a speech is never an easy task and I was immensely proud of every single student who had the courage to put themselves forward.
The results of the election will be announced on Monday, and we wish the very best of luck to all our candidates.
This week at the Lower School, we have been focusing on rules and routines. We have been working on how we behave as we move around the school, in assembly and the lunch hall. As it was ‘World Read a Book Day’ last weekend, Ms Binks shared her favourite book in assembly ‘Would you Rather’. She told the children how her and her brother used to read it together when she was little. All the children enjoyed hearing the story and deciding which of the things they would rather do.
Our new pupils in Little Cypress and Reception have settled in beautifully and really enjoying learning. Nursery have been brilliant walking through the school calmly and quietly through the school to lunch and we have been so impressed. Reception have been enjoying exploring the outdoor area and have visited the Forest School area for the first time. They have been great at learning new routines such as ‘Tidy Up Time’. Our Year 1 and 2 children have settled well in their new classes and are showing good learning behaviours.
Family Event @ Grangewood Park
Community event, Picnic in the Park at Grangewood Park will be taking place on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. It is a free family-friendly afternoon with live music, children’s entertainment, reptile petting, a raffle, and a variety of stalls to explore. Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic, relax, and enjoy a day of fun together in the park.
Cypress Superstars
Well done to all our children in Nursery who received a Headteacher’s Award from Ms Binks for their excellent behaviour moving around the school. We are so proud of you. Well done also to David and Jacob in Year 3, who produced descriptive sentences inspired by their current book, ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne. I am very proud of your both!
We wish all our children and families a lovely weekend.
