CYP LOWER – Books galore in Little Cypress!

What a fabulous week we have had in Little Cypress, exploring all things book-related! The week started with plenty of literary activities, such as Teddy Bear Book Picnics and lots of time to browse and seek out our favourite books in the book corner. As usual, we have been spending keyworker time choosing and reading books with our familiar adults and impressing them with our focus and love of detail in so many of the stories we have been choosing!

We had such fun on Wednesday, when all three of the Year 3 classes came down to Little Cypress to do ‘Buddy Reading’ with both the Nursery and Rainbow children. The older children exhibited such patience and kindness to the younger ones and it was heart warming to see siblings together as well! Thank you to Cedar, Holly and Birch Classes for showing us your wonderful reading skills, as well as your people skills! The Little Cypress children loved the visits and talked endlessly about the books they read and the children they were paired up with!

Thursday saw great excitement when the author, Ruby Wright, came to Cypress to visit and do workshops with the Nursery and Rainbow children. She is the author of books such as ‘Invisible Dogs’ and ‘Animal Crackers’ and also showed us her impressive illustrative skills as well! How wonderful to meet a real, live author and one that writes such fabulous children’s books!

Thursday was also World Book Day and the children (and parents!) made an incredible effort to be all things bookish when dressing up. Alongside Spidermen, Batmen and other Superheroes, we had Robin Hood, Mickey Mouse, The Highway Rat,  Where’s Wally, The Rainbow Fish, Floella Benjamin from ‘Coming to England’ and so many more incredible book characters.

What a book-filled week we have had!
