Wow! What an exciting start to our Book Week 2026! Margaret Bateson-Hill led a wonderful assembly on Monday for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to officially launch Book Week 2026. She re-told the story of ‘The King who wanted to touch the Moon’ and had everyone totally captivated and engaged in story-telling with her, joining in using actions. During assembly she challenged Reception children to build a tower that could reach the moon, so they did! It almost reached the full moon shaped light in the classroom.
Margaret then spent the rest of the day leading workshops with Year 2 based on her book ‘Masha and the Firebird’. Margaret involved the children in the telling the story and then they used their imagination to consider what would they do with their firebird and how would they describe them. The children made wonderful firebird masks and will be making paper mache eggs and writing poems.
Margaret has visited Cypress for a number of years and is very well-known by children. We always look forward to her visits and story-telling assemblies.
A huge thank you to Margaret for giving our Cypress Book Week 2026 such an interactive and fun start!
