Thursday was a special day at Beulah as the teachers and children were thrilled to welcome the renowned author, James Sellick!
James, a passionate advocate for the environment, had come to share his stories. He brought three of his books “There’s a Rang-Tan in my Bedroom,” “Storm Goliath,” and “Saving Piku.” Each story was infused with lessons about nature, conservation, and the importance of how to manage our emotions.
As he read aloud, the children’s imaginations soared. They gasped at the adventures of brave animals fighting against deforestation and learned how harmful palm oil can impact their beloved forests. With every turn of the page, they discovered the magic of storytelling and the powerful messages hidden within.
After the reading, James engaged the children in a conversation about his books. He explained why he wrote them to inspire children to care for the environment and take action against deforestation. The children asked questions, eager to understand how they could help save the trees and wildlife around them.
The day didn’t end there! The children participated in a fantastic poster-making class, creating colourful artwork that reflected the themes from James’ stories. They painted trees, animals, and messages about conservation. The children returned to their classrooms, full of ideas about the next steps they could take for their planet.
What a memorable day it was!
