Gold Tales

Gold class have had a wonderful Spring term hearing and learning about different traditional stories. Our focus stories have been  ‘The Three Little Pigs’, and ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. The children had great fun engaging in many activities around the stories.

The children enjoyed making puppet characters from the different stories and building houses for the Three Little Pigs, especially ’huffing and puffing’ to blow them down!  We were very lucky that Isla’s mother came to show us her Three Little Pigs puppets from her puppet theatre show. The children also learned about the properties of wood, bricks, and straw. We carefully investigated  to check which material was the strongest for house building.

When we looked at the story of ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’ we learnt about different sizes, explored what it means to have good manners and had great fun cooking porridge. We tried different ways to prepare it until the children felt that it was ‘Just right!’. Children were amazed at the mess that someone made in our class. It has been lovely to see the children suggesting different ideas to find out who did it. We just had one clue, a shoe left behind. Some comments were; “It’s a mystery!”, “We need to find out who belongs the shoe to.”, “We find the person that wears only one shoe.” Can you child remember who made the mess?

It has been lovely to see the children enjoying these stories and watching them re-tell the stories independently during their play. Some of our children were very creative and made up alternative versions!
