What a huge privilege it was to spend time with our amazing School Council representatives yesterday! We met with Emma, our cook at the Lower Site, to discuss the things we liked about school dinners and the areas where we thought there could be some improvements. The children were generally hugely positive about the school dinners and especially liked: the macaroni cheese, fish and chips, pizza, ice-cream, cake and biscuits and the chicken wraps. Some of the children also said they knew how hard the cook works to produce food for so many children – how lovely that they recognised this!
Some suggestions for the future including making the main counter rainbow themed rather than stainless steel, a little less spice on the peri-peri chicken, vinegar for the chips so they are less dry and have the spaghetti and meatballs re-introduced.
When talking about the salad bar, there was huge popularity for the croutons, grated carrot, sweetcorn and beetroot. Suggestions for further improvements to the salad bar included: adding Quorn chicken bits, olives, carrot batons, more ‘juicy things’ like tomato and adding celery, although Emma mentioned that celery is an allergen for some.
Emma found the feedback really useful and we were so impressed with how eloquent and confident the children were in articulating their views. They were also brilliant at waiting their turn to speak and were polite and respectful throughout the meeting.
Well done, Lower School Council!
Miss Chapman
