CYPRESS: We are feeling festive!

We are feeling festive at Cypress! The Christmas trees are up and the decorative Christmas hoops are on display in the hall. We are looking forward to the Y5 Christmas production, Winter discos and Christmas parties happening over the next two weeks!

We have also been considering how resourceful we are in the classroom. We know that being resourceful can improve our efficiency in the classroom. We looked at characters who have overcome challenges by being resourceful and considered how we might further employ our imagination, questioning, link-making and capitalising skills.

We also have been considering the concept of Trust – how it can take time to build, seconds to break and a long time to repair. We heard the story of the Crow and the Fox and The Tiger’s Whisker to reinforce these ideas. Ask your child about what they have learned this week about Trust.

Cypress Superstars

In line with our new behaviour policy, each classroom has a ‘recognition board’ where we celebrate children’s successes and achievements.  Each week, we (Miss Binks and Mrs Carpenter) also have children coming to us to share their work and achievements and we love sharing this in our weekly news story.

Ida, Sebastian, Gabriella and Ted came to share their conversational Spanish skills! They were so confident when speaking I thought I’d share! Please click the link to listen.

Sophie also came to see me with a wonderfully detailed drawing based on a scene from the Phillip Pullman’s Firework Maker’s Daughter. She had used powerful language to describe a scene from the story. It is clear that you thought very carefully before choosing your words, Sophie. Well done!

Football – Cypress v St Joseph’s

Yesterday Cypress Football team played St Joseph’s in a long awaited match. After a disappointing opening game, the Cypress football team came back strongly against St Joseph’s to earn a hard-fought draw at 1-1. After an opening goal from Ruby in the first half firing in from distance, the team begun to show so fight and determination. Maxwell marshalled the defence, and Ray delivered some excellent saves. Sebastian, Pietro and Lea worked hard in midfield.St Joseph’s fought back and scored just before half time to level the score with a well taken goal. Ralph, Cruz, Rico and Ethan worked hard to keep an even score sheet. It was a hard fought second half with chances for both sides, but neither team could edge it. Excellent progress made by Cypress – well done to all who took part!

Baby News

Congratulations to Mrs Sorenson, who gave birth to her little girl, Lily Rose last Friday. She is absolutely gorgeous and is doing well. We send our love and best wishes to Mrs Sorenson at this happy time!

Today we also say ‘good luck’ to Ms Thomas-Bell, who definitely deserves the title of Cypress Superstar. She is due to have her baby in January and today was her last day. We will miss you! We can’t wait to meet your little one when she arrives!
