CYPRESS: Bags of resilience!

We have been showing our resilience this week at Cypress. Winter is now here and the weather this week has been bitterly cold but we have still managed to enjoy the learning and have fun with our friends! Well done to Year 6, who visited Fairfield Halls and were inspired by the talents of the children of Whitgift School, Year 3 who visited Crystal Palace Park (click here to read the news story) , learned all about the wonderful dinosaurs in the park, whilst Blue and Green class visited the Science Museum! The weather was a challenge, but you all showed great resilience and a dedication to learning. At the Upper school we have been thinking about being resourceful. We know that we have to use cognitive strategies to help us do this; asking questions (the right questions!), making links to what we already know, using our imagination to test our ideas and capitalising on our skills and knowledge at the right time are key to our success.

Year 6 Police Visit

We have also been considering what values are, our Pegasus values and any additional values we feel are important and guide our behaviour and opinions. Year 6 were also visited by the police for a talk. Please see our news story here. They really had to consider their personal values and think about using them to guide the decisions they make as they transition into secondary school.

Rowan Class Assembly

We were also treated to a wonderful assembly from Rowan class. They gave us a whistle stop tour of their learning journey this term and it was jam packed! They also sang ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman. An ode to their excitement about their next term’s learning and beyond! Thank you Rowan class for delivering such an entertaining assembly. Special thanks also to Ms Marshall, Ms Gould and Ms Joshi for supporting the children to deliver their assembly today.

Cypress Superstars

In line with our new behaviour policy, each classroom has a ‘recognition board’ where we celebrate children’s successes and achievements.  Each week, we (Mrs Sorenson and Mrs Carpenter) also have children coming to us to share their work and achievements and we love sharing this in our weekly news story.

At the Upper School Ariana and Caleb (Cedar) came to show me a book they have written. It’s an adventure story centred around two hedgehogs: Holly and Hedgerow. It was a thrilling read! They have shown great determination and writing stamina to create their book, which is very impressive given that they have just begun Year 3!  Well done both; I can see we have some budding authors in our midst! Owen in Hawthorn also came to see me with his maths work – he had completed his reasoning and problem solving tasks on area and justified his answers confidently!! Well done, Owen.
