CYP UPPER – World Maths Day Challenge

Time to prime those brains and flex those fingers: World Maths Day is back!

World Maths Day (WMD) is celebrated every year to make maths exciting and engaging for all school-aged children from all over the world – regardless of cultural or socio-economic background, and regardless of ability. World Maths Day disregards the notion that you are either a ‘maths person’ or not.

To mark the occasion of WMD, on Wednesday 23rd of March 2022, students across the globe will battle it out to discover who is the world’s strongest mathlete and all of us at CYP UPPER believe our pupils have what it takes!

On the day, each class will log into Mathletics at school and the children will compete against peers from across the globe in 20 one-minute challenges (they will be matched by their year group). For every correct answer they achieve, they will be awarded one point, which will go towards their total World Maths Day score.

For the top student in each Global Year/Grade they will be awarded a Playstation 5, along with a winners trophy. 2nd and 3rd place getters will also receive a WMD trophy. Fingers crossed we can win some of these amazing prizes!

To prepare for the event, we encourage children to log into their Mathletcis account over the next week and a half, and compete in Live Mathletics tasks – the more they do, the better and quicker they will be!

We are all really excited for the event and will keep you posted with how we get on! If you have any question, please talk to your child’s class teacher.
