CYP Upper: Shining a Light on Greatness!

This week was Black History Week at Cypress. We have enjoyed our daily ‘storyteller sessions’, with a new story teller each day. Press play to watch Miss Francis tell a traditional West Indian story.

We have also been learning about periods and events in History and the role of black people within them, such as the ‘Black Victorians’, ‘The Forgotten soldiers of World War Two’, ‘The Bristol Bus Boycott’ and the history of Carnival. We also had a special story telling session from Usifu Jalloh on Wednesday. This all culminated in an amazing celebration of our knowledge today with our own Cypress Carnival, where we shared facts, sang songs we had practised in singing assembly and participated in and listened to Djembe drumming! It was so much fun! What a way to finish the half-term! A big thank you to Miss Prideaux and Mrs Rose, our PSHE co-ordinators and Miss Barker, our amazing music teacher, who organised such an exciting and informative week for the children.
