CYP Upper: Eco Squad News!

The Eco Squad have been working extremely hard this year and have made a fantastic contribution to our school environment. Pupils in Years 3 and 4 have been carefully looking after our wormery, learning how worms help to recycle kitchen and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost and liquid feed. This process reduces landfill waste and removes the need for chemical fertilisers, supporting the long-term sustainability of our school garden.

Meanwhile, pupils in Years 5 and 6 have been busy planting and caring for our plug plants, which they tend to weekly in our outdoor classroom. The plants are currently growing well and will soon be transferred to our garden beds, where they will provide fresh vegetables and salad for our school kitchen.

Last year, the Eco Squad were proud winners of a competition run by the Muddy Faces website, securing a £500 prize. The children chose to use this funding to purchase a class set of wooden stools, allowing classes to enjoy learning and spending time in the garden (once the weather improves!). This year, the Eco Squad have successfully secured a further £250 grant and are excited to take on the challenge of deciding the next stage of development for our garden.
