Cypress Newsletter – 13th March

On Monday, we announced the winners of our Extreme Reading competition at the Lower School!  Well done to Xian, Athena, Holliday and Ronnie who all won a £5 voucher to spend at our Book Fair.  Our Year 1 and 2 classes have all enjoyed an additional sports session this week, focusing on developing team work, ball skills and following multi-step instructions.  Reception have been enjoying learning about ‘People who help us’.  They have had a visit from a Paediatrician (thank you to Remi’s mum!) and asked lots of very interesting questions such as ‘Why do doctors check your heart?’ and ‘Why did I get spots on my face when I had chicken pox?’.  This afternoon we had a very exciting visit from Firefighters at Woodside Fire Station, where children learnt more about their very important job and how they help us and keep our community safe.  We had a chance to dress up, explore the fire engine and test out the hose!

At the Upper School this week we have focused on using perseverance to help us make new learning stick.  We have thought about how we have responsibility for helping ourselves retain new learning and the different strategies we use to do this.  On Wednesday, we had a fantastic assembly led by Miss Ahmed and some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils.  This assembly was all about Eid and the significance of Ramadan.  We enjoyed hearing what the children do to celebrate Eid.  What an informative assembly!

Book Fair

Thank you to all those families who supported us at the Cypress Book Fair.  We had our very best year yet and raised around £2,000 in commission to spend on new books at Cypress.  Thank you!  We hope everyone enjoyed our Book Week 2026.

Indigo Class Assembly

Indigo Class amazed us this week with their assembly on ‘Toys’.  Children wore some incredible costumes, delighted the audience with songs and shared their learning about Toys from the past and present day.  We were very impressed with their clear speaking voices, remembering all their lines and singing so beautifully.  Well done, Indigo Class!

Larch Class Assembly

This morning, we started the day with a fantastic assembly from Larch Class which showcased their learning in English.  Year 6 have been studying ‘Macbeth’.  They gave us an excellent summary of the plot of the play.  We were also treated to an episode of Masterchef starring the 3 witches creating the spell.  What a gruesome meal!  The children sang an excellent rendition of the song ‘Witches Brew’ based on the play and their own version of the Addams Family theme tune adapted to be about Macbeth.  Well done Larch Class and a huge thank you to Mrs Manson and Mrs Joshi for your hard work preparing the children for the assembly.
