Merry Christmas from everyone at CYP Lower!

Merry Christmas from everyone at Cypress Lower School!  It has felt even more festive this week with the snowfall and we’ve had great fun playing outside!  Please take some time to read a message from our Cypress MACs.

Following on from our show-stopping Reception Nativity last week, we have had some excellent performances this week from our talented children in Year 1 and Year 2 where they shared poems and sang some jolly songs for their parents and carers.  Our youngest children in Little Cypress sang some beautiful songs for their families on Wednesday.  Huge thanks to our amazing staff for all their efforts in leading our performances this year – they really do go above and beyond for every child at Cypress!  Thank you for your generous contributions after our performances this year.  We raised over £230 for Cancer Research UK, a cause very close to many of our hearts.

Children in Reception have visited St John’s Church this week to learn more about Christmas, walking through the ice and snow to get there.  We have also had class parties, filled with dancing and treats.  There was a very exciting visit from none other than Father Christmas himself this morning, accompanied by his favourite reindeer Rudolph.  He has very kindly given every class a present for all the children to share and enjoy.

This afternoon every child at CYP Lower come into the school hall for our Christmas pantomime!  The multi-award winning CYP Lower Panto Company delivered a fantastic performance of Aladdin, with lots of “He’s behind you!”, “BOOOO!” and “Oh no it isn’t!”.  Great fun was had by all and a huge thank you to our amazing performers for being brave enough to make themselves look so silly on stage in front of the whole school.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Kevin in Year 1 for demonstrating incredible progress in his phonics this term – we are so impressed!  Well done to Betty, Jacob, Mina and Nooria for some great comic strips this week, showing the Christmas Nativity.  Ari in Violet class has written a fantastic Winter poem.  Musawer and Rose has been working hard in maths this week, even on the last day of term!

Well done to children in KS1 who received a special bookmark, book and a pyjama reading afternoon this term as part of our Reading Tree rewards, celebrating daily reading at home.

This morning we handed out Gold Awards for a couple of children in each class who have demonstrated consistently ‘positive behaviour’.  These are very special awards and children’s photos will be on display in our school hall for the next half term.

Miss Shadbolt

Today is Miss Shadbolt’s final day at Cypress Primary School after 17 years of hard work and dedication.  She has been a huge asset to Cypress and children, staff and families are all very sad to see her go.  Most children at Cypress have known Miss Shadbolt, through their time in either Rainbows, Breakfast or After School club.  We wish Miss Shadbolt all the best in her future ventures and hope that she will still stay in touch with her Cypress friends and family.  Thank you, Miss Shadbolt!

Staffing from January 2023

We welcome Miss Kokkini as the new Rainbows Lead from January.  We know she has very big boots to fill, but we’re sure she’s going to be great in her new role within Little Cypress.  We are pleased to welcome Mrs Claridge who is joining us as Red class Teaching Assistant.
