In our Reception setting, we have been learning about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. We found out that Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. People clean their homes, light oil lamps called diyas, and decorate with colourful rangoli patterns. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and how they returned home after defeating the demon king, Ravana. Families enjoy special sweets, wear new clothes, and watch fireworks. We made our own diya lamps with paper plates and rangoli art in class. It was fun learning how different people celebrate their special festivals with joy.
In our maths lessons, we have been learning about patterns. We explored different types of patterns using colours, shapes, and objects. We made repeating patterns like red-blue-red-blue and circle-square-circle-square. We used block, finger painting and all sorts (toys), to create our own patterns. Sometimes we clapped or jumped in a pattern too! We talked about what comes next and spotted patterns in the classroom and outside. Making patterns helps us with counting, sorting, and thinking carefully. We had lots of fun working with our friends and sharing ideas. Patterns are everywhere, and now we are great at finding and making them!
