Happy Diwali
This week, we have carried on learning all about the Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali. We have been making our own Diwali cards by carefully painting and sticking beautiful jewels on them so they look like the diyas (lights). We had so much fun playing with our Rangoli tuff-tray. Rangoli are the colourful patterns made on the floor, using different materials such as coloured rice, flowers, coloured sand or rice flour. The beautiful and often intricate patterns are to welcome guests, so are often on front doorsteps and during festivals such as Diwali, they symbolise prosperity and welcome the Goddess Lakshmi, the bringer of wealth, prosperity, fortune and beauty. The children loved transferring the coloured rice in to various golden containers. They also remembered so much about the Diwali story – very impressive! You can learn more about how Hindus celebrate Diwali here.
Happy Autumn
We have been enjoying all things Autumn these past few weeks and have been exploring pumpkins, squashes and gourds. The children have been pressing pins and golf tees in to the fruit and creating patterns and shapes using elastic bands to stretch around the pins and tees. This took plenty of concentration and hand-eye co-ordination!
Happy Half-term
It hardly seems possible that a whole half term has already whizzed by. The children have settled in beautifully and it seems as if they have been here forever. We are looking forward to the next half term with the run up to Christmas and all the fun that goes with that time of the year!
We hope you all have a wonderful half-term break.
