CYP Upper: Sun, Rain and Rainbows!

This week we have been thinking about imitation and how we can use this skill to improve our thinking in different subject areas and considering who might be a good choice to imitate. We might choose to learn from someone who is an expert or someone who has also just improved in that area – they may be able to help us understand the steps that brought them to that ‘lightbulb moment’. It has also been a week for trips! Year 3 have visited a Buddhist temple, some Year 3 and 4 children having been golfing at Addington Court Golf Club (click here for the story), many of our Year 6 children have been to Boughton woods, braving the rain and enjoying the sun (for news stories click here) and others have been to Kidzania in Shepard’s Bush. See the gallery for photos!

We had a wonderful assembly from Birch class based around the book ‘The Mysteries of Harris Burdick’. Birch Class wrote mystery stories and created some role play around a mysterious image from the famous picture book! They finished off the assembly with a beautiful rendition of ‘Talking to the Moon’ by Bruno Mars. Well done Birch class! It was lovely to see so many parents in attendance also.  A big thank you to Ms Khatun and Ms Punyer for supporting the children in their assembly performance.

Mr Spoerer’s Marathon

Our Cypress music teacher Mr Spoerer is running the London Marathon and fundraising for the Down’s Syndrome Association.  Please click here if you’re able to support his fundraising efforts.

Woodland Library Opening

We are very proud to announce the opening of our new Woodland Library on Wednesday. From 3:15 until 4:15, the library will be open for you and your child to look around and peruse our shelves. See your invite here. Margaret Bateson- Hill will be in attendance and will be storytelling in the playground. Local councillor, Louis Carserides and Chair of MACs, Marsha Douglas will also be attending the event. Special thanks goes to Mrs Parker, who has led the library project to completion and created a wonderful learning space for our children. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTFA, and chair Laura Good. The PTFA have hosted many events and fundraised relentlessly to fund the project. Their contribution will make a lasting impact at Cypress and we are very grateful.

We hope to see you there!

Cypress Superstars

Our Cypress Superstars this week are: Levy (Hawthorn) for his rapid progress in phonics and accurate blending; Alana (Birch) for her gymnastic achievements outside of school; and Leonardo (Beech) for his impressive new found skill as a pâtissier this week! Jasmina (Willow) gets a special mention for her mammoth project exploring her journey to school and what she sees on the way for our big art competition!  Your dedication to the task is admirable, Jasmina! A big well done to all of our Rainbow winners this week; we are very proud of you!

Our Active Travel Art Competition ris still open and is entitled: ‘What can you see on your journey to school?’ Children who would like to enter, should hand in art work to their teacher by Friday 24th June. Submissions can be any size, theme or art medium.  Please ensure your child’s name is on their art work.  We will display these in school and announce winners in assembly after the half term holidays.
