CYP – Welcome back to the Summer Term!

Welcome back to the new Summer term!  We hope that everyone had a very happy Easter holiday and it’s been great to see our children returning looking very smart in their uniforms.  This week we had class photos taken and we will share details of how you can order these soon.

We’ve seen some amazing learning this week at Cypress.  Our children in Reception have been busy immersing themselves in their new topic ‘Once Upon a Time’,  transforming their role play areas into the most amazing castles and having fun in a great dance workshop inspired by the Big Bad Wolf.  Children in Reception have also been writing retells of Little Red Riding Hood using their phonics and finger spaces.  In Year 1 children have been learning about the Tinga Tinga tales and ‘Why Lion Roars’, writing amazing sentences to explain why lion was happy or sad using a range of punctuation.  In Year 2, children have been reading ‘There’s a Snake in my School!’ by David Walliams, creating adverts to save the snake from the hands of the nasty Headteacher Miss Bloat (who clearly is nothing like Mrs Sorensen)!

Year 6 have been immersing themselves in their new text ‘Wolf Brother’ and have travelled back in time to the Stone Age in a workshop that showed them the skills Torak would have needed to survive in the book.  To find out more take a look at their article here

The Well-being Ambassadors at the Upper had their first training session this week and have been learning about the way their brain works.  They used this to help them understand what happens when your emotions vary.  They are looking forward to their next session next week.

We ended the week with a wonderful assembly from Hawthorn class.  They shared their learning about endangered and extinct animals.  We had some wonderful acting, interesting information and some great use of humour.  The assembly ended with a fantastic performance of ‘The Tiger Sleeps Tonight’ accompanied by some wonderful djembe playing. Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us this morning.  Well done Hawthorn class and thanks to Mrs Rose for all your hard work.

Well done to those who received Rainbow certficates in assembly today.  A great start to the Summer term!  Our word of the week at the lower site is celebration, so please post your sentences into the golden box for a chance to win a rosette. At the upper site, the word of the week is disgust, please get your entries in to Ms Binks.

We wish everyone a very restful Bank Holiday weekend and Eid Mubarak to families celebrating!

Mrs Sorensen, Mrs Carpenter and the Cypress Team
