Our schools use Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) to teach the foundational skills of reading. Schools in the Trust use the 'Little Wandle' phonics scheme. We teach daily phonics lessons in Reception and Year One. Decoding is practised and applied in Reading Practice sessions which take place three times a week with adults trained to teach reading. Alongside a wide range of other quality children’s books are either read to or with them.
