CYP Newsletter – Friday 5th June 2026

Welcome back!  We have had a fantastic first week back and we can’t wait to enjoy all the wonderful learning experiences and events planned for this half term.  Please check the website calendar and keep a close eye on Studybugs for all the dates and information about upcoming trips and events.

At the Lower School, we have been thinking about what it means to be an independent learner.  We read the story of ‘Tilda Tries Again’ by Tom Percival and celebrated how she persevered and looked for different ways to solve problems when things became tricky and her world was turned upside down.  Miss Hunt led assembly earlier in the week, talking about World Environment Day and played a ‘plastic or fantastic’ quiz with KS1.

At the Upper School, we have been thinking about the importance of listening.  We have considered what good listening looks like and why it is important.  We have learnt that good listening helps us learn more things, build stronger friendships, work better in teams, prevent misunderstandings and understand different views.  All of these things help us to be successful learners.  We have showing how good we are at listening this week.

Young Artists in Reception

Before half term our budding artists in Reception created some art work based around the theme of nature and submitted their entries into the Young Artists competition.  We were absolutely amazed that so many of their entries have been chosen to form part of a special book.  Well done to all our amazing Young Artists in Reception!  We look forward to seeing your art appear in published book very soon.

Walk to School week

Next week we are encouraging Cypress children and families to walk to school, or be as active as possible on their daily journey by using their bikes, scooters, or jumping off the bus one stop earlier.  On Tuesday 9th June, children can wear their own shoes for ‘shoesday’.

Cypress Upper Sports’ Days

This week we have held our Lower and Upper Key Stage 2 Sports’ Day with the children demonstrating their collaborative skills.  We also saw some excellent sportsperson’ skills and sporting prowess.  To see more about these events, please read our article here.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Clodagh in Yellow Class who has amazed us by creating her very own K Pop book at home.  She has included so much wonderful writing, using her sounds carefully.  Thank you for sharing!  Wilfred and Gabriel in Indigo Class have been very busy over half term and shared their wonderful home learning about Africa with us.  We loved your drawings and facts about Kenya.  Mason has been working really hard on his letter formation and we have been so impressed with his writing this week.

Well done to Malik and Alex in Sycamore Class who came to share their beautifully presented thematic work about graffiti.  Congratulations to Kaycee in Sycamore Class who has worked really hard to improve her attendance and punctuality this week. Well done to Mahbubat in Holly Class who came to show her thematic work showcasing her learning from the Year 3 Caveman Extravaganza this week.  She had clearly learnt a lot about life in the Stone Age.

PTFA Summer Fair Tickets and Volunteers

Join us on Saturday 20th June, 1.30pm to 7pm at the Lower School site for an afternoon of music, games, performances, food, drinks and community fun!  Tickets are just £3 per child.  Adults go free (with an optional donation).  Book tickets and sign up to volunteer here!

The day relies on volunteers to make it happen.  The slots are just one hour long so you can still enjoy the day with your family.  Every volunteer makes a huge difference and helps ensure everyone gets a chance to enjoy the fair.  Thank you so much!  Any questions please email: hello@cypress-ptfa.org

Thank you for supporting our school. We can’t wait to see you there!
