This week in literacy, the children have been learning about the Nativity story. We enjoyed sharing the story together, talking about the different characters and events, and exploring new Christmas vocabulary. The children have been practising listening carefully, answering questions, and retelling parts of the story in their own words. The children have been getting ready for Christmas by sharing festive stories, songs and activities, which has created lots of excitement in the classroom.
The visit to the church was spectacular, as always. The people at the Methodist Church went above and beyond organising fantastic activities for the children to do. All of the parent volunteers were a great help, and we really appreciate them taking the time out of their day to make trips like this possible. The children were a credit to the school. They were actively engaged, respectful and behaved impeccably.
In maths this week, there has been a thief stealing all of our 2D shape friends! The children were very good at following the clues to find where the despicable Mr X had hidden them. During independent learning time, the children applied their knowledge by sorting shapes, talking about their properties and creating pictures using them.
In phonics, the children recapped everything they had learned this term. They demonstrated excellent retention of the letter sounds and applied this really well when reading and writing simple words. The tricky words have proven to be a bit tricky, so we shall continue working on these.
We hope everyone has a lovely, restful holiday, and we look forward to seeing you all back in the new year.
