WHINF – Funnybones and more!

In Reception, we used the book Funnybones during literacy lessons to help develop children’s language and storytelling skills. The story captured their attention with its fun characters and repetitive structure. We explored the sequence of events, practiced retelling the story using pictures, and discussed the setting and characters. Children enjoyed joining in with familiar phrases, building their confidence in speaking and listening. We also linked the story to writing by encouraging children to create their own skeleton adventures. Using Funnybones made learning literacy engaging, creative, and full of imagination.

This week in Maths, we have been learning to compare groups to see which has more and which has fewer. We look at two sets of objects and count how many are in each one. If one group has a bigger number, it has more. If one group has a smaller number, it has fewer. For example, if one child has 5 toys and another child has 3 toys, the first child has more. We can use counting and looking carefully to find out which has more Comparing helps us understand numbers better.
