CYP – Year 3 visit the London Wetlands Centre!

Year 3 had the exciting opportunity to visit the London Wetlands Centre. As part of our Science curriculum, Cypress applied for the ‘Generation Wild’ project, which provided the school with free coach travel and free tickets for the children to visit. The project aims to connect children with nature, hoping that they will come to love, respect and take action to protect it.

A few weeks before the trip, Year 3 have been busy completing nature activities and following the story of ‘Ava’s Destiny’. Each activity had an associated virtual animal badge awarded to each child once the activity was completed. Once children had completed ten activities, they became a Guardian of the Wild. We are proudly excited to reveal that most children became Guardians of the Wild before we even set off for the trip! Children were awarded a pin badge, certificate and even a free entry voucher for a family visit!

Our trip was a fun-filled day, from completing nature activities to seeing otters and herons! We started our day in the adventure playground where the children enjoyed the zipwire, playground tunnels and balancing beams! The children then discovered Ava’s secrets through the animals on site. We were given magical listening devices called ‘translatorphones’ to hear what the animals had to say. These guided us to areas on a map to complete the activities and earn ourselves another badge. On our way there, we travelled along the ‘wobbly bridge’ and went through the ‘wild walk’, which was a natural trail over the water and through the trees!

We have entered Cypress Primary School in the prize draw, as part of the Generation Wild project as lots of the children have been busy at home and in school completing nature activities! We have a chance of  winning up to £500 ‘MuddyFaces’ vouchers to support nature connection in our school. Last year, we won the prize draw, so fingers crossed again! Have a look below at our entry!

The children definitely had fun and discovered the wonders of nature as their last trip in Year 3! We hope this fostered a life-long love for nature and the children will be eager to visit again with their free voucher.

Thank you very much to the parent volunteers who supported us on this trip.
