CYP: Celebrating Independent Learners

At the Upper School this week, we have focusing on the skill of revising.  We have been learning how to revise our actions to help us make progress.  The children have learnt that they can do this by looking back at what they have done, checking what worked well and changing something to improve where you are struggling. We know that that the best learners are not the ones who get everything right first time but the ones who keep improving.

At the Lower School, we have been learning about ways to support our mental health and well-being.  Mrs Jerman led an assembly on Monday to mark ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’ and then in class children have been thinking about all the different ways we can support our well-being.  Please have a look at some of our posters below!  We have also welcomed families into school this week for our very popular ‘Booknics’ in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  Families were able to see all of our wonderful ‘Reading Spine’ books, have a biscuit and share some of the books together.  We’ve sent home the details of all the titles in our ‘Reading Spine’ so please have a look out for these very special books when they’re sent home.

Safer Internet Day

This Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day.  At the Upper School, Mr Shipley led a very informative assembly about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).  We learnt about the things it is used for and the impact this has on our lives.  During the assembly, we heard different examples about the use of AI and were able to identify those which were good uses and those which were not.  At the Lower School, Mrs Sorensen taught us all about AI and the theme of this year: Smart tech, safe choices.  We thought about types of AI we might encounter at home and school (such as voice assistants like Siri or Alexa) and who we could talk to if we had any worries.

Blue class assembly

Blue class led a fantastic assembly this week.  They performed not 1, not 2, but 3 incredible poems!  They also recited ‘Jack and the Flum Flum Tree’ by Julia Donaldson with prosody, actions and some hilarious ‘don’t get your knickers in a twist’ moves.  Well done to Blue class and thank you to Mrs Dutton and Mrs Vethakkan for supporting the children.

Book Week

After half term we’re very excited for our annual Book Week!  Please click here to read the newsletter for further details and events.  We will be sending home reminders and more information via Studybugs.  World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March and children (and staff!) are invited to dress up as their favourite book character or wear comfy PJs for the day.
