As part of their Thematic learning on Crime and Punishment, Year 5 embarked on an unforgettable trip to the Tower of London. The day began with excitement as the children crossed the iconic Tower Bridge, taking in stunning views of the River Thames and the historic city skyline.
Once at the Tower, the class was treated to a fascinating guided tour. They explored the ancient fortress and learned about its dark and dramatic past, from gruesome executions to the imprisonment of famous figures like Anne Boleyn and Guy Fawkes. The children were intrigued by the stories of traitors’ gates, torture chambers and the roles of the Yeoman Warders, also known as Beefeaters.
A highlight of the day was seeing the Crown Jewels, including the Imperial State Crown and the Sovereign’s Sceptre. Pupils also explored the White Tower, where they viewed suits of armour, old weapons and royal artefacts.
The visit brought their classroom learning to life and gave everyone a better understanding of this important part of British history.
