CYPRESS: Leading with Kindness

This week, at the Upper School we have been thinking about the various roles we play in different situations, especially during our social interactions on the playground. It’s crucial to recognise that by merely observing or being entertained by at negative behaviours, we might inadvertently encourage them. We discussed at length the wonderful gift of free choice; we can opt not to support unkind actions and instead take positive steps to cultivate a cheerful and supportive atmosphere within our school and community.

Today, we were treated to a wonderfully enlightening assembly by Mr. Moore, a humanist who introduced the new topic of Humanism for our KS2 students. This will be part of the Croydon SACRE syllabus from September. It was a delight to hear Trevor’s insights about how he views the world and his memorable message: ‘treat others as you would like to be treated’.

Year 6 Cuffley Trip

Year 6 went to Cuffley for 3 days of camping this week. Please click here for more details. They have had a wonderful time axe-throwing, climbing, learning archery, engaging in team building and communication games, shelter-building as well as orienteering. They will definitely sleep well tonight! We will make more pictures available to Year 6 parents once the children have returned to school. Thank you also to the adults who accompanied the children on the trip: Ms Wadham-Powell, Ms Gould, Mr Nicol and Ms Mangan.

Cypress Superstars

This week we say a massive well done to James in Holly who has been very busy during the half term. He went to the Netherlands to play in the Dutch Youth Football Cup tournament where they were competing against 50 teams!. James’ team, Tecnica Football Academy, made it all the way to the final! It sounded like a nail-biting finish, as two of the later games ended with penalties! They narrowly lost to Feyenoord FC’s academy team and came away with the runners up trophy. James was excited to tell me that he scored 5 goals over the duration of the tournament for his team. Well done James – we are very proud of you!

Well done to Year 6 children, who remained at school and put on the most creative and entertaining fashion show! There were hand crafted (from newspaper and bin bags!) shoes, skirts with bustles and trains, dresses, trousers, handbags and hats. They definitely showed great creative flair and spirit. Please see the gallery for a few snapshots of the fun.

Well done to Ollie in Hazel who has been learning about Space and was inspired to create a picture illustrating the closest planets within our galaxy.

Elham has been using his skills of observation and attention to detail to create a fantastic drawing of a Neanderthal man related to his Stone Age thematic topic. I was very impressed by your efforts to use light and shade to give the facial hair and heavy brow depth and dimension, Elham!

Hannah and Harry from Hazel Class impressed me with their Spanish skills this week! Their accents were so authentic and they were so confident in their conversation, that I thought it only right to share! Click below to listen.

Travel Competition Winners

Well done to all of our Walk to School Week competition winners for their impressive trainer designs helping to highlight the importance of walking to school and travelling as sustainably as possible. A big thank you to Ms Fernandes for organising the week and this fun competition.

Have a great weekend
