Reception is looking at the topic, ‘Beastly Beasties,’ this half term. To start this area of learning off, we looked at the book ‘Bugs’. We identified that it was a non-fiction book and identified the features of a non-fiction book. Through the book and researching on the internet, we found information about lots of different minibeasts. We learned that insects have six legs and three segments of their body. The children then wrote fact cards that we put together to make class books.
In mathematics, we have recapped subitising. We extended the learning using Rekenreks so the children could create their amounts to subitise. In Forest School, the children have been whittling sticks in preparation for flag-making in our next session.
