CYP UPPER – Y5 VIKING DAY

Y5 have had a superb day today! The day didn’t start off as we had planned as we have had to reschedule our workshop, but that didn’t stop the children having lots of of Viking fun! What also helped were the amazing outfits the children came in to school with – thank you for all your efforts in this!

We started off by exploring Viking runes and how these helped the Viking to communicate. Each child had a go at spelling their name with the runes and even composed a secret, coded message. How exciting!

We then dived deep into design and technology, where the children had the task to design and make their own Viking dragon heads. These figures were an important aspect of Viking longships as their role was to scare off all enemies – be they real or imagined. The children designed their dragon heads by considering a range of aspects and then created their designs using clay and a range of carving tools. They did so well, as the dragon heads are looking very fierce and frightening! We will paint the dragon heads once they have dried.

We will be in touch soon to update you on when the Viking workshop will take place, thank you for you understanding on this matter, which we could not help.
