WHINF – A busy January in Year 2

January has flown by for Year 2 and we’ve certainly been keeping busy.

In English and History we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We are working towards writing a diary entry as if we had been an eye witness to the event. Children worked in groups to act out scenes from the tragic event and we even had the privilege of encountering famous diary writer Samuel Pepys himself!

In maths we have been learning a variety of strategies to divide numbers. We have enjoyed using manipulatives to solve problems and working in pairs to support one another.

During the Great Fire of London leather buckets were used in an attempt to put of the fire. The was not an efficient method. In our science lessons we have been exploring the properties and suitability of a variety of materials. We investigated which materials would be waterproof and durable to consider what we could make buckets out of now.

Elena was so brave to compete in the Pegasus Inter Schools poetry competition against Year 2 children from all of the other Pegasus schools. We were so proud of her! She won 3rd place.
