It has been a very exciting morning for the School Council at Cypress Lower today. They have been helping making decisions about our school lunch menu and have taken part in a Salad Workshop run by our catering company Harrisons.
The children began by recapping their learning about healthy diets and found out about the different ingredients they could include in their salad. Using what they had seen, they worked in groups of 3 to design, make and name their own salad. They had to consider the ingredients they would use, whether the salad would look appealing and taste good.
Once the salads had been made, named and displayed, it was tasting time. The children tried all of the salads and were able to vote for the one that was their favourite. After the voting was complete, their was one clear winner. ‘The Rocket Express’ created by Athena, Zen and Otis was crowned the winner and will now be available as an option on the salad bar once a week. The winners were very excited at the prospect of the other children in the school having the chance to try their salad. Well done to all our School Council members who did an excellent job creating their salads and voting.
This afternoon, our Eco Council will have the chance to create a salad and think about where food comes from. Harrisons will then be giving the children a voucher to plant their own ‘Rocket Garden’ where they will grow herbs that can be used as garnishes for our lunches. They will be also given some special pencils that contain a seed so once the children have finished with the pencils they can be planted. How exciting!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Judith, Morad, Nicola and Debbie from Harrisons for providing such an exciting opportunity for our children
