This week, the school council and house captains set off on an unforgettable adventure to the Houses of Parliament, and what a day it was! From the moment we arrived at the UK Parliament Education Centre, the children were buzzing with excitement, ready to explore one of the most important buildings in the country.
We were taken on a guided tour through the Palace of Westminster, where the children were amazed by the history and grandeur around every corner. One of the highlights of the day was stepping inside the House of Lords. Although we weren’t allowed to take photos—or sit on the famous red benches until we officially become barons and baronesses!—the children were fascinated by the glittering decorations, the golden thrones, and the impressive statues that filled the chamber.
We were allowed to take photos in Westminster Hall, which is nearly 1,000 years old and one of the oldest parts of the building. The children were astonished to discover just how many incredible events have taken place there throughout British history.
After the tour, the learning continued with an engaging workshop all about democracy and representation. The children explored how decisions are made in Parliament and were excited to discover that their own roles as school councillors and house captains share similarities with the responsibilities of real Members of Parliament.
The day was packed with curiosity, learning, and inspiration. Year 3 returned to school full of new knowledge and enthusiastic stories to share. It was truly a trip to remember!
