CYP Lower – Vital Vegetables in Little Cypress!

Oliver’s Vegetables

We have had a fun filled week in Little Cypress, learning all about the vegetables from the story: ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. Oliver says he only likes chips so his Grandad, who has a wonderful vegetable garden, says he can have chips if he can find the potatoes. If he finds any other vegetable, he has to try it with no complaints! A culinary journey ensues, with Oliver trying rhubarb, beetroot, peas, spinach, cabbage and carrots before eventually finding the potatoes for his beloved chips! He does try all the other vegetables, however, and actually finds them all rather delicious!

We used all the vegetables from the story to create shopping lists, guessed the vegetables from a feely bag and practised cutting them up for a vegetable soup with fabulous focus and determination. We printed repeated patterns using the seven vegetables from the story and used our imaginations wonderfully in the small world farm scenario with the puppets from ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. The adults have been so impressed with the writing the Nursery children have produced this week with their vegetable shopping lists metamorphisising in to birthday party lists and general lists of things they needed to remember.

Juicy Fruits!

We couldn’t leave out fruit after learning about vegetables and put our motor skills to fantastic use by squeezing oranges, lemons and limes to make some delicious mixed juice. We added fresh mint and basil and the smell was delightful! Jaheem and Ray showed incredible perseverance when trying to get all the juice out from the various citrus fruit.

Rainbow Certificate ChildrenĀ

Well done to Sid (the birthday boy) for counting so well and accurately and being able to tell the time with his new watch! He excitedly told me: “I like telling the time with my new watch and getting sweets for my birthday!”

Also, to Ruben D for becoming much more independent lately in his self-help skills. Fantastic!

Sofia retold the story of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ beautifully, Nella and Madeleine did some amazing vegetable printing and Fela has been listening really well this week.

Makaton Sign of the Week

Marvellous Mathematicians

The children have been particularly interested in counting and making patterns with the mathematical equipment this week, creating some really impressive arrangements. Laolu remarked: “I love making rainbow patterns!”

In Forest School, great fun was had making leaf crowns from items found in the forest!

Have a wonderful weekend!
