CYP Lower – Little Cypress Remembers

Red for Remembrance

What a poignant and thought provoking week we have had in Little Cypress! Some of our Nursery children wanted to talk to us about Ms Ashton, our lunchtime supervisor, who also worked in Breakfast and After School Club, who sadly died last weekend. Parents had spoken at home to the children and the children were keen to tell me some of their memories and to say they had drawn pictures for Ms Ashton to put in her book of condolence, which we have in the lower school office. Sofia said: “I have drawn a picture for Ms Ashton because I miss her and she made me laugh!”

We also remembered those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom in wars and we fell silent for two minutes at 11 o’clock on the 11th November. We watched this touching clip from CBeebies to help us focus and understand what we were thinking about, in an age-appropriate way. Click here to watch this evocative clip.

We enjoyed playing with the poppy and soldier themed loose parts and heard so many interesting conversations between the children. Monae told me that; “We wear poppies to remember the soldiers!” and Aidah said: “The soldiers were very brave but some of them died!”

The children used the colours red, black and green, to print poppy themed repeating patterns.

Makaton Sign of the Week

As usual, we learned a new Makaton sign this week. This week’s sign was ‘diabetes’. We have a child with Type 1 diabetes in Rainbows this year and also had one last year in Nursery so this is a very relevant sign. Click here to see how to sign this word.

Children in Need

The week ended with a really fun day for Children in Need on Friday. We wore bright colours or clothes that make us happy, in order to raise money for this wonderful charity. We joined the rest of the school in the hall to dance to the Strictly Challenge. Click here to see what we have been learning each day!

We hope you all are enjoying a lovely weekend.
