CYP LOWER – Learning new skills in Little Cypress!

Learning new skills and consolidating old ones!

The staff in Little Cypress have been noticing and celebrating the incredible creativity of the children in both Rainbows and Nursery. This week they have been particularly interested in developing their cutting skills. They have been drawing shapes on paper, using the scissors to cut them and then sticking the shape back in its original place with masking tape. Some of us have even been making our own flaps like in ‘lift the flap’ books and even helping our friends to make them too, if they found it difficult.

We have loved making patterns and pictures with the wooden magnetic blocks and have also created some incredible models with the construction materials. It was also great fun using the salad spinner to make red, white and blue explosions to celebrate VE Day.

Tea at the Palace

Miss Chapman and Mrs Jerman had a very exciting afternoon on Wednesday, when we went to Buckingham Palace for a Garden Party, hosted by the King and Queen! It was for people from the education sector and we had an amazing time, sampling some delicious sandwiches (yes, there were cucumber ones!) and looking at the beautiful gardens.

Makaton Sign of the Week

We have learned to sign ‘Mental Health’ this week. This is a tricky concept for young children but we have been talking about how to feel calm if we get upset or angry and have been practising our breathing exercises during the week. We have been learning to breathe deeply; inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. We pretended to breathe like a dragon who exhales fire and this caused lots of giggling! Click here to see how to sign the words ‘Mental Health’.

We also talked about what we could do if we felt sad, upset or angry and came up with lots of fabulous suggestions including: finding a grown-up we know to talk to, cuddling a friend or family member, squeezing a soft toy or counting to 10. What fantastic strategies!

Remembering our Rules and Routines

It is always good to revisit our routines and rules and Nursery have been remembering the things we try and do in Little Cypress to make sure we all can play happily together. Miss Chapman was so impressed with all the ideas the children came up with: what superstars!

Rainbow Certificates

This week, a huge well done to Max in Rainbows for writing his name so beautifully and for doing some fantastic artwork.

In Nursery, Robin has made some incredible arrangements with the mathematical equipment this week and Alfie was awarded a Rainbow for having such beautiful manners.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
