CYP Lower: Half a term of fun in Little Cypress!

Settling in

What an amazing first half-term we have had in Little Cypress! It has been so heart-warming to see how well the children in both Rainbows and Nursery have settled and got to know the rules and routines of their classes. It is really hard for some children to separate from their parent and even the very youngest children have gradually learned that Little Cypress is a fun and happy place to be and the tears are lessening! The children are getting used to being part of a class and learning to share and take turns; something that is tricky to do when you are 2, 3 or 4! Negotiations over bikes and other toys are of paramount importance at this age and learning to wait for something can be very frustrating! Teaching the children these crucial skills are a large part of the job for all Early Years Practitioners.

Loving our Learning

This week has been as packed as usual with learning! There has been lots of interest in the pumpkins again and we extended the activities by scooping out the contents of the pumpkins and making our own versions of pumpkin soup, following reading: ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper. The conversations that ensued about the insides of the pumpkins and squashes were fascinating: “It’s all stringy inside and the pumpkin seeds are mixed in with the string!”  What a great observation!

We have done plenty of Halloween printing and all decorated our own Halloween spooky biscuits with icing and sprinkles!

Black History Month

During October, we have been focusing on learning about influential Black Women, whom have helped to shape and change the course of history. In Little Cypress, we have been learning all about Rosa Parks and how she stood up for what she felt was right. Her brave actions in speaking up in a time when it was difficult to do so, resulted in changes in law. Read more about Rosa Parks and her incredible life here

We thought about other influential Black Women, including Mary Seacole, Serena Williams and Michelle Obama. Have a look at this CBeebies clip here to learn more about some of these amazing women!

Makaton Sign of the Week

We learn a new Makaton sign every week and this week we have learned the sign for mouse. Click here for how to sign the word mouse.

Show Racism the Red Card

Little Cypress was a sea of red today to mark ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ and thank you so much for all your donations for this amazing cause. This links with our work on Black History Month.

We hope you all have a wonderful half-term break and many thanks for all your support.
