Diwali Fun in Little Cypress
In Little Cypress, we have been learning about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light. Diwali teaches us that good overcomes evil and light overcomes darkness. Diwali celebrates Lord Rama and his wife Sita returning from fourteen years in exile in the forest. They defeated the ten headed demon, Ravana, and lights (diyas) lit their way home to welcome them. Click here to learn about the story behind Diwali.
We have made our own clay diyas in Nursery and Rainbows, made patterns on them and then painted them with bright colours. We then varnished them with glue and sprinkled glitter on them. They looked so beautiful! We have listening to lots of stories about Diwali and learning about how HIndus celebrate their most important festival of the year.
Diwali starts on Monday, 20th October and we are now making Diwali cards in celebration and will be creating our own Rangoli patterns next week. Rangoli patterns are made with coloured rice and sand and are often put on doorsteps to welcome visitors over Diwali.
Learning new things every day...
We have been working hard on completing puzzles, practising our cutting and drawing skills, listening to stories and trying to write our names. We are also thinking about our rules and routines so that we can all work and play together, happily. This includes using inside voices when inside, keeping our hands and feet to ourselves, thinking about using our manners and using our words when we need help. We have been extra kind to our school dog, Seve and are understanding to leave him alone if he is sleeping. What kind and thoughtful children!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
