Cypress Lower – Marvellous Museum day!

What an incredible week we’ve had at Cypress Lower School!

Museum Day at Cypress Lower School

This morning we welcomed Parents and Carers into Cypress for our Museum Day, showcasing the children’s thematic work.  We certainly had a packed house so thank you to everyone who was able to make it!  Little Cypress and Reception had created incredible displays in the school hall sharing their work on Monsters, Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day.  In Year 1 families were welcomed into classrooms to join in with activities based around their topic of Toys and enjoy the children’s models and Toy line drawings.  In Year 2, families came to see children’s Tudor house models, attempt some calligraphy with quills and have a go at creating their own Tudor Rose!  We also saw some very creative and impressive costumes today across all year groups.  Huge thanks to our amazing Teachers and Teaching Assistants for working so hard and dedicating their time to put such a special Museum Day together.  Please check out the video below for some photos from Museum Day!

Mental Health Awareness Week

During KS1 assembly on Monday, we learnt more about what mental health means and considered some ways we can support one another.  This week is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week and we have been celebrating what makes us special and unique.  We also reminded ourselves about how important it is to get help and thought about which trusted adults we can talk to at school and at home if we need to ask for help.

Safer Internet Day

On Tuesday we marked Safer Internet Day with a special assembly led by our Computing Lead, Miss Wenham.  She shared important messages about keeping safe online and children discussed who they could talk to if they had any worries.  Please look at the presentation attached and reiterate this important message at home with your child.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to all the staff and children at Cypress for their amazing efforts on Museum Day!  Ruairi and Issac in Reception tried really hard with their writing this week, using sounds to write the names of characters from ‘Billy and the Beast’.  Abigail in Reception has made fantastic progress in her phonics and came to share her recent assessment with Mrs Sorensen.  Sofia in Nursery independently painted the most amazing rainbows, showing a real artistic flair!  Ida, Mateus and George in Year 2 created some incredible Tudor houses for Museum Day, complete with moving parts.

STARS Active Travel

Last term we ran the STARS Active Travel Pupil Pedometer Challenge; how many steps do you take on your journey to school?  Well done to all our entries- wow some of you did a lot of steps and that equated to a lot of miles walked!  The children’s names, who did the most steps in their class, will go up on the STARS notice board and they are:

Turquoise class – Donnie Blue class – Eve Red class – Jack
Violet class – Yakira Indigo class – Aarav Orange class – Penda
Ruby class – Hudson Green class – Mabli Yellow class – David

Lower School After School Club update

After half term, children in Year 1 and Year 2 who attend After School Club will be making use of the additional space in the Community Room due to increased numbers of children attending.  We have installed a bell on the black playground gates, so please ring this when collecting Yr1 and Yr2 children from ASC.

Book Week 2023

The second week back after half term is Book Week, a real highlight in the Cypress annual calendar!  We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 3rd March and children will be invited to dress up as their favourite book characters.  Let’s get creative!  Please check out our Book Week newsletter attached for more information about the exciting activities and events we have planned.
