CYP: We are collaborative learners

This week at the Upper School we have been reflecting on how capable we are reflecting on our ability to collaborate.  We looked at a video showing different examples of collaboration and drew out the key skills needed.  The children were able to identify that collaborative learners can work well with others, listen to everyone’s ideas, know when to lead, show empathy and look for good role models to imitate.  We are focusing on these skills in class this week.

At the Lower School, Ms Baladere led an assembly about Bastille Day, the national day of France.  We had a VERY wet Sports Day on Friday but in true Cypress style, we persevered on!  Well done to our Parents and Carers for smiling throughout and cheering the children on.  Most of the children hardly noticed the rain and still tried their best in every activity!  We’ll post a separate news story with more photos so watch this space!  Thank you to Miss Hunt (our PE Lead) and Miss Chapman for all their hard work organising our Sports Days – everyone has had the best time!

Birch Class Assembly

We began our day at the Upper School with a fantastic assembly from Birch Class who reflected on their learning and achievements in Year 3.  They also talked about skills they would like to improve in Year 4 and ended the assembly with a wonderful rendition of ‘Wave your Flag’.  We were so impressed with the children’s skills and how much they have grown in confidence during their time in Year 3.  Well done to Birch Class and thank you to Miss Khatun, Ms Isaacs and Miss Thomas for all your hard work with the children.

Year 6 Present Magpie Manor

On Monday evening, Year 6 performed their end of year production to a packed audience.  The children wowed with their acting, dancing and singing skills.  We also had our own technical team and props team who did a magnificent job of ensuring the show ran smoothly. We are so proud of the children’s achievements.  It truly was a wonderful performance.  Thank you also to the Year 6 team for all you hard work with the children.

Eco Squad and Year 6 at the Summer Fair

Some children from Year 5 showed fantastic collaborative skills and worked together to create products to sell to raise money for the Eco squad!  They did this completely independently and even made T-shirts for it!  They worked off their strengths to produce a fantastic stall.  Well done girls!

Well done to our Year 6 volunteers who ran a successful stall raising money towards their end of year events.  They did an excellent job and we are really impressed with their enterprise skills.

Year 2 Transition to the Upper

Well done to Year 2 who joined us at the Upper School for Rainbow assembly and play time.  We really enjoyed having you with us.  Year 2 will returning to the Upper site for a session with their new class teacher on Monday morning.  Thank to all the parents and children who joined us for our transition meeting on Thursday.  It was lovely to meet you all.

House Point Winners Celebration

Congratulations to children in Sparta at the Upper School who earnt the most house points this year and celebrated with play and snacks in the garden yesterday.  Well done to all pupils who have worked hard and earned points for their house team this year.

Word of the Week

This week’s ‘Word Wizard’ at the Upper School was Eve in Willow Class who wrote a fantastic sentence using the word ‘polluted‘.  Our final word this year is ‘devour‘. Please post your entry in the box outside the office to be in with a chance of winning.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Joe in Lime Class with an amazing Anglo-Saxon board game he had designed and built as part his thematic homework.  We were really impressed with his DT and art skills.  What a magnificent achievement!  Congratulations to Jimmy and Fred in Beech class who used their knowledge of electrical circuits to design and make a moving mouse.  They showed exceptional resilience in overcoming challenges with their project.  Great work boys!

At the Lower School we are proud of our Year 1 children for making their very own books this week!  Rose’s book was called ‘Rose the Mermaid’, Matipa’s book was called ‘Two friends’, Ivy’s was called ‘The book of summer’ and Bethany’s was ‘The princess’.  Some of the children even wrote a blurb and logo to show the publisher!  Marcel, Clem and Barney have all done a great job writing instructions with imperative verbs and adverbs, for their treasure map.  Abisola, Nooria, Dani-Elrod and Louis have all worked hard in science this week learning about predators and consumers.

PTFA Summer Fair and discos

Thank you so much to our wonderful PTFA led by Laura and Chanelle who organised an amazing fair on Saturday.  It was a really enjoyable afternoon and it was wonderful to see so many children and families there supporting the event.  We believe the total raised has surpassed other years so watch this space and we’ll share soon!  Our children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed their PTFA discos this week and it’s over to KS2 next week for the final discos of the year.  We are so grateful for all the PTFA do to enrich and support the education of our pupils at Cypress.

End of year reports

Please check your child’s book bag today for their end of year school report, which details their progress and achievements this year.  We are so proud of all our children for a fabulous year of learning and fun at Cypress!

We wish all of our children and families a restful and relaxing weekend and look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday for the final week of term.
