CYP – Showcasing our Talents

It has been another packed week at Cypress with concerts, trips and Croydon Sports all taking place.  Our children have showcased so many talents this week and also represented the school so well.

At the Lower School this week, we have continued thinking about managing our emotions.  This is especially important at this time of year when lots of change is taking place and we are beginning to think about moving to new classes with new teachers.  For our Year 2, this means moving to a new site.

This week, at the Upper School we have been testing the idea that luck isn’t about magic, but about the choices we make. By being kind, helping others without being asked, working hard, and being someone others can trust, we create our own luck. When we choose to be the kind of person who makes others feel lucky to be around us, people are more likely to support us, look out for us, and offer help when we need it. We now understand that our positive actions shape the opportunities that come our way.

Pegasus Year 3 Spelling Bee

Over the past few weeks, Year 3 have been taking part in heats for the Pegasus Spelling Bee Competition. The finals took place on Monday, where all Year 3 children across the Trust gathered at Whitehorse Junior School to watch each school’s winners compete for the title of Spelling Bee Champion 2025. We are incredibly proud of Leon in Cedar Class, who came second and received a beautiful Spelling Bee trophy – well done, Leon! Thank you also to Mrs Price for her organising such a fun learning experience for the children.

Croydon Sports

Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in the Croydon Sports events this week – we are very proud of you all. We wish Faith in Larch Class the very best of luck in her 90m semi-finals sprint today. We will share the results with you as soon as they are in! A special thank you to Ms Ahmed and Ms Hassan, who have trained the children over the last few weeks and accompanied them to the arena to compete. Your dedication and support are greatly appreciated!

Red Class Visit Capel Manor Farm

On Tuesday, Red Class had a fantastic trip to the farm.  They had a super day and enjoyed seeing all the animals up close.  They finished their day with a trip to the adventure playground.  Red Class are now producing some fantastic writing about their visit.  Thank you to all the parents and carers who helped out on the day.  We are very grateful for your support.

Year 2 Visit Broadstairs Beach

On Thursday, Year 2 went to Broadstairs beach for the day.  This was part of their leaning about the seaside and an opportunity for the children to gain a real understanding of the land meeting the sea.  Everyone had a great time with children having fun with their buckets and spades on the beach.  Thank to you all our staff and parents who accompanied the children on the trip.

Year 5 Visit to the Tower of London

Today, we visited the Tower of London as part of our Crime and Punishment topic, exploring its fascinating and sometimes gruesome history. The children learned about famous prisoners and the evolution of justice through the ages. A huge thank you to the parents who accompanied us  and Ms Pumphrey, Ms Hassan and Ms Marshall for organising and leading the trip.

Music Concerts

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had music concerts after school.  These were an opportunity for the children who take part in music lessons with our peripatetic teachers to showcase their progress and talents.  On Tuesday, it was the turn of our flute, recorder and half our guitar players.  They did a wonderful job and played with both confidence and skill.  Wednesday saw our violin players and the rest of the guitar players have their chance to shine.  The children showed great skill playing solo, in duets and our violin places finished with an ensemble piece.  This was the first time they had all played together.  We are so proud of the resilience and commitment the children have shown in their lessons.  Thank you to our wonderful music teachers Hannah Anderson, Barbara Matos and Fiona Thompson for all your hard work with the children.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Milica in Yellow Class who came to share her map of the school.  She had drawn and labelled the classes accurately.  We are very proud of you.

Well done to Lyra, Joanna, and Aisha from Holly Class for their vibrant and thoughtful anti-racism posters. They showed great passion for the message of equality for all, and it was inspiring to hear them speak so confidently and sincerely about such an important topic. Well done to Sheick, Alex, and Jacob in Larch, who created a very informative fact sheet on the Olympic Games, linking perfectly to their history topic on Ancient Greece. They also shared their favourite Greek facts, which were both funny and interesting; great work, boys!

We wish all of our children and families a relaxing weekend and hope to see many of you at our PTFA Cyp Fest which runs from 1:30pm until 7:30 pm on Saturday 28th June.
