CYP Lower – Persevering with our learning

We’ve had a great week at Cypress Lower School, which ended today with the first PTFA cake sale of the school year.  We’re looking forward to many more fundraising events this year including class cake sales, discos, an adult social quiz night and of course our Christmas Fair!  Please keep an eye out for further details and we hope you can all support our wonderful PTFA in raising funds for the school to benefit our children.

Weekly round-up

During assembly this week we discussed Building Learning Powers (BLP) and how important it is to persevere when we face challenges.  We explored how sometimes we all get stuck in ‘the dip’ when faced with a challenge and thought about strategies for overcoming difficulties to help us become better learners.

Well done to Owen, Sam and Ayisha for being chosen as our Word of the Week champions!  Next week our word is return and we hope as many children as possible will write a sentence and post it into the golden box for a chance to win a rosette.

On Thursday we celebrated National Poetry Day and enjoyed a day full of reading, writing, performing and listening to poems.  Please click here to read more about what each class got up to.  Year 1 and 2 also had an amazing story telling session on Wednesday with Alim Kamara, who kickstarted our Black History Month celebrations and taught us all the mantra, “I. Am. Amazing!”  We joined other KS1 classes from schools across Pegasus via Google Meet so Alim could share the story of the Hat Maker, encouraging children to develop their own storytelling skills.

It was great so see our school hall filled with Reception parents and carers on Tuesday for their curriculum meeting.  We hope everyone found the meeting useful and please click here to access the resources.

Coming up next week…

Parents’ evening (Monday 11th October and Wednesday 13th October): We hope that everyone’s been able to make an appointment with their child’s class teacher.  Please enter the school building via the school office, where you will be directed to the correct classroom.  If your child is in Year 1 or Year 2, their books will be available for you to look at in the school hall.  We are politely requesting that all adults wear face coverings whilst in the school building, unless they are exempt.

Next week our Year 1 children are visiting Upper Norwood library, so please ensure your child has appropriate footwear and clothing on the day as they are walking to the library.  We will send out a text to remind families the day before their visit.

We sent a letter out today asking families to contribute to our Harvest collection, which will be donated to Croydon Food Bank at the end of this half term.  Please send any donations to the school office and click here to read the letter.

We hope everyone has a very well-deserved rest this weekend!
