CYP Lower – Hot, hot, hot!

This week has been incredibly hot and with temperatures set to soar next week, we’ve been thinking of ways to keep cool.  Next week children are allowed to wear their PE kit or their school uniform, regardless of whether it’s their usual PE day or not.  We will be encouraging children to drink plenty of water, refill their bottles regularly and we will also be keeping children inside for some playtimes when temperatures reach their peak.  Staff will be making every effort to keep classrooms ventilated and cool and we will take advantage of the cooler areas of the school.  There will also be lots of water play in EYFS.  Please ensure your child has sun cream applied before school and they bring a hat.

We celebrated our Word of the Week winners during our assemblies and have been very proud of the entries received from some of our Reception children, who have been joining in ahead of their move to Year 1 in September.  We had a great celebration assembly today with over 260 children in the hall – Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 were all together!  Well done to those who received Rainbows this week.

This week children in Reception have been reading ‘Today I saw a Little Worm’ by Spike Milligan.  They’ve had great fun performing the poem and then writing their own silly versions!  I wonder if they can remember the poem to re-tell it at home?

Year 1 children have been following instructions to make some delicious pancakes.  They have also been making African drums.  Tyler said, “We made drums with some leopard skin and snake skin paper to decorate it.”  Sophie said, “We worked as a team.  Emily chose the patterns and then we worked together to stick the cups to each other.”

Year 2 children made some fab stick creatures in their Literacy lessons this week, after reading ‘Rosie’s Magic Horse’.  They have also been busy rehearsing for their Leavers’ Assembly next Tuesday at 2pm.  They’ve also had a special assembly led by their new Year 3 teachers and they were also treated to a violin performance.  On Thursday Year 2 went for lunch at the Upper School, preparing them for their transition in September.

Sports Day photos – If you’d like to order any photos please follow the links and information in this letter.  50% of proceeds will be donated to the Cypress PTFA.

Summer holiday activities – We have been receiving lots of information about local holiday activity clubs, many of which are free for families eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).  Many restaurants are also providing discounted or free meals for children.  Please keep an eye on our news story, as we’re adding new information when we receive it.  If anyone knows of any other summer holiday projects or freebies for families, please email the school office.

End of Year Reports – Today you will receive your child’s end of year report, summarising their achievements from this academic year.  Well done!  We are so proud of all our Cypress children.

The PTFA discos have been a great success this week and enjoyed by all!  Thank you to our parent volunteers for their support.

Next week is the final week of term and you’ll find details of class parties on your child’s classroom door.  Children are welcome to wear their own clothes on the last day of term and bring a £1 donation for school funds.

Have a lovely weekend and please stay safe in the sun!
