CYP Lower – Festive fun!

We’re certainly feeling festive at CYP Lower this week!  Ruby class performed their assembly to parents and carers on Wednesday, teaching us all about the history and traditions of Advent.  Mrs Spencer has been leading Forest School groups for 20 years and she’s never, ever been asked to roast brussel sprouts on the campfire – Violet class made this request and they ate them all up!  Our Reception Nativity was just magical and we are so proud of every child for taking part.  A HUGE thanks to our amazing Reception Teachers and Teaching Assistants for leading this performance.  Today it was ‘Save the Children’ Christmas Jumper Day and we raised £250 for this worthy charity.  We also enjoyed our delicious Christmas lunch today, complete with crackers!  Thank you to Zoe and the Harrisons catering team for their hard work – can you imagine cooking a Christmas dinner for 300 children and 40 adults?!

We celebrated lots of children’s achievements in our Rainbow assembly today at the Lower School.  Well done to Teddy in Year 1 for winning a Word of the Week rosette.  Next week our word is party.  We also said a big thank you to Miss Hassan who has been teaching in Ruby class this term.  She’s going to be teaching Cedar class at the Upper School from January so we’re pleased we’ll still be seeing her at Cypress!

Salvation Army Present Appeal

Thank you to everyone at the Lower and Upper Schools who was able to donate a new toy or gift.  Mrs Sorensen’s car was full to the brim when she dropped them off to the Salvation Army this week!  We donated just over 100 gifts this year, which will be distributed to vulnerable families across Croydon this Christmas.

PTFA update

A HUGE thanks to our amazing PTFA for raising a whopping £2,400 at the Winter Fair!  Raffle letters have gone home this week and we’ve also had children partying at discos, all raising even more funds for Cypress children.  Thank you everyone who has been supporting the PTFA – you’re wonderful and we all appreciate everything you do.

There is a concert at St John’s, Upper Norwood this Friday, featuring our very own Cypress violinists playing side by side with the brilliant London Mozart Players: https://www.londonmozartplayers.com/whatson-event/christmas-at-crystal-palace/. The LMP have kindly set up a discount for the friends and families of Cypress performers. The 20% discount is now active using the code LMPXMAS20.

Next week…

Please make a note of the arrangements for our Year 1 and Year 2 Christmas performances next Tuesday and Little Cypress singing on Wednesday.  We also have class parties next week so please check your child’s classroom doors for posters with more information.  Children in EYFS will be visiting St John’s Church next week to learn more about Christmas.

Have a lovely weekend!
