CYP – Caring for ourselves and others

This week we have been focusing on our Pegasus Value ‘We Care’ and how we can show a caring attitude towards others.

At the Lower School, we began the week by learning about dyslexia.  This week is National Dyslexia Awareness Week and we found out what it is like to be dyslexic.  We heard the story of 9 year old Sophie who has dyslexia.  Although she finds some aspects of reading and writing hard she has so many talents and can ice skate, play sports and sew brilliantly.  Ms Binks also told us about her niece and nephew who are dyslexic.  Her nephew is amazing at maths, finding patterns and can build really complex Lego models.  We learnt that having dyslexia can be  a super power and make you really good at things that other people may find hard. At the Upper School we have been focusing on routines and thinking about why they are important at school. We know that if we are clear on the routines we can ensure we maximise our learning and play time. We know that routines help us stay safe, happy and healthy at school.

Year 4 Harvest Assembly

This week, Year 4 delivered a wonderful Harvest Assembly, celebrating the season of abundance and gratitude. The children opened the assembly with an enthusiastic performance of the classic harvest song Autumn Days. Each pupil spoke clearly and confidently, demonstrating just how well they had rehearsed and understood the meaning behind the celebration. They beautifully showcased the many ways harvest is celebrated around the world -through dancing, singing, and sharing interesting facts. Their assembly reminded us all of the importance of being grateful for what we have and of showing compassion towards those who are less fortunate. As part of their message of kindness and community, Year 4 encouraged everyone ‘Give to the Max‘  This year we are supporting Nightwatch Croydon, a local charity helping those experiencing homelessness. Any donations of tinned and dried goods will be gratefully received in the school office – a heartfelt thank you to all who have already contributed. Donations are open until Thursday 23rd October. A special thanks goes to Ms Stewart, Ms Richardson, Ms Marshall, Ms Habib, and Ms Isaacs for their guidance, encouragement, and support in helping the children deliver their assembly.

Lower School Asthma Assembly

On Wednesday, we had an assembly led by the Asthma Awareness Society at St. George’s.  We learnt about what it means to have asthma,  how it can affect your life and how we can help someone who is having an asthma attack.  We now know how to show caring towards people with asthma. The Upper School will also have their Asthma Awareness Society assembly next week.

Violet Class Harvest Assembly

We began the day on Thursday with a super Harvest Assembly led by Violet Class. They wowed us with their performance and we were all amazed that they could remember the words and actions to three different poems which they had learnt off by heart.  We were also treated to two fantastic songs ‘Harvest Tango’ and ‘Reggae Harvest’.  Well done Violet Class we are all so proud of the way you worked as a team and were able to perform with such confidence. Thank you to Miss Balahadere and Miss Sompa for all your hard work preparing the children for the assembly.  A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to join us and made the occasion really special.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Attila in Indigo Class who came to the office to share his amazing thematic home learning.  As part of the topic ‘Here We Are’. Attila had produced some fantastic work all about the origin of his name and his family.  Ms Binks found it really interesting to know that Attila’s name means ‘Little King’. Well done to Lacey in Oak Class who has been working dilligently on her times tables and could give me correct answers for all of the equations asked of her! Practice makes perfect – we are very proud of you, Lacey. I had a very interesting conversation with Bea in Oak Class this afternoon where she explined very clearly the process of river deposition and erosion and shared why the Nile was so important Egyptians. I loved chatting with you today!

We wish all our children and families a restful weekend.
