CYP Lower – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

This week our fabulous Christmas hoops were put up in the Lower School hall, along with our Christmas trees.  It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Cypress Lower School and everyone’s been busy rehearsing for their upcoming performances.  The children have been practicing their singing and a few visitors (and staff!) have even shed a tear when passing by as the singing has been so beautiful.  We have now scheduled a second Reception performance to reduce audience numbers in light of recent higher Covid numbers and will have doors open for ventilation at all performances.  We politely request that all adults wear a face covering, as the DfE now recommends that all adults in school (staff, visitors, parents) wear these in communal areas.  We thank everyone for their support and cooperation and look forward to seeing you all.

This week children in Reception have been busy rehearsing for their Nativity performances.  They’ve been reading ‘My Granny went to Market’, flying off with Granny as she spins around the world on an unforgettable shopping trip.  Children have been busy making masks and practicing their counting as they follow Granny on her adventures.  We’ve also seen some amazing phonics this week and so many of our Reception children are now blending their sounds to read words – we are so impressed!

This week Year 1 have been busy making their very own moon buggies.  They’ve been working collaboratively to design and make buggies which are stable and have moving wheels.  We’ve been so impressed with their team work!  They have also been writing some amazing information booklets about the first moon landing.

Year 2 children have had a visit from the very naughty Jack Frost, who sprayed snow over their windows and made a complete mess in their classrooms.  In the end Mrs Sorensen had to chase him off the premises!  This visit has inspired some fantastic writing across the year group.

Well done to Ayisha, Jahvani and Isadora for using the word freezing in a sentence and winning a ‘Word of the Week’ rosette.  Next week our word is champion – get those sentences into the golden box for a chance to win!  We have also celebrated children from each class who have been awarded Rainbow certificates this week for displaying great learning attitudes, progress and behaviour.  Well done everyone!

Christmas Jumper Day is next Friday 10th December.  Please click here to read our letter.  We will be fundraising for ‘Save the Children’ and can’t wait to see everyone in their jazziest jumpers or decorated festive tops!

Thanks to your donations we raised an impressive £433.35 for the Royal British Legion from selling poppies.  Thanks to our Upper School Council for selling these and to our families for their generosity.

Our lovely Book Hut Swap is back in business!  From Monday 6th December, you may access the hut to take books to keep at home and or donate fairly preloved books to replenish our collection.  The hut will be available in the morning and after school and is located outside Little Cypress.

Please have a read of the news story from earlier in the week which details additional Covid measures which are now in place across the Trust.

We hope to see everyone at the PTFA Winter Fair today and thank everyone involved for their dedication and commitment to raising additional funds to support our children.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
